Chiropractic is an alternative source of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. Such disorders can affect the bodies general health through the nervous system. One of the main assertions of chiropractic is that spinal dysfunction (errors in normal motion or position of spinal bones) can put pressure on the nerves of the body causing nerve interference resulting in symptoms or dis-ease. This is also known as a subluxation.
Chiropractors correct these subluxations by performing adjustments (manipulations) to the spine or other parts of the body. The goal being to ease pain and support the body’s own natural ability to heal itself.
There are 2 basic Philosophies of chiropractic:
- The body naturally seeks proper balance. The bodies systems are meant to work and function together.
- Proper structure is necessary for proper function. If structure is compromised, function can be negatively affected.
Chiropractic focuses on the integrity of the spine and its surrounding tissues as a means to enhance the bodies normal motion, balance, function, overall health and wellbeing.
